Are You an Accidental Salesperson? Take the Quiz

When you hear the word salesperson, what comes to mind?

Someone carrying a quota? Making cold calls? Closing deals? Wearing a plaid sport coat and saying, “What’s it gonna take to get you into this baby today?”

But what if you don’t consider yourself a salesperson at all?

Maybe you’re a coach, consultant, accountant, solopreneur, designer, business owner, or other professional who simply wants to help people.

There’s just one tiny problem…

You still have to get people to hire you.

Congratulations…you may be an Accidental Salesperson!!

Take this highly scientific, extensively researched quiz. (Okay, I made it up. But it’s still pretty accurate.)

Give yourself one point for every YES.

1. Did you start your business because you’re great at what you do – not because you wanted to sell?

You wanted to coach, consult, create, advise, design, or serve. Then someone casually mentioned, “Oh, by the way, you need clients.”

2. Do you sometimes feel uncomfortable talking about/asking for money?

You can talk about your expertise all day, but when it’s time to say, “The investment is…” suddenly your mouth feels like the Sahara Desert.

3. Have you ever thought, “I don’t want to be pushy”?

You want clients – but you don’t want to convince, manipulate, pressure, chase, or talk anyone into anything.

4. Do you give away too much information during sales conversations?

Instead of discovering whether someone needs your help, you start helping them immediately. Thirty minutes later, they’ve received free consulting and you’ve received a heartfelt “Thanks! This was great!!”

5. Do you talk too much about what you do?

You explain your process, methodology, experience, credentials, program, features, benefits, and possibly your childhood – before fully understanding what the prospect actually needs.

6. Do you sometimes avoid following up because you don’t want to “bother” someone?

You tell yourself, “If they’re interested, they’ll call.”

Meanwhile, your prospect is busy living their life and has completely forgotten about the conversation.

7. Do you struggle to ask deeper questions?

You ask about the problem – but sometimes stop before uncovering why the problem matters, what it’s costing them, and why they want to solve it now.

8. Do you sometimes finish a great conversation without actually asking for the business?

You hear yourself saying:

“Well…think about it and let me know!”

Then you hang up and wonder what happens next.

How Did You Score?

0 – 2 YES answers:
You’re pretty comfortable with selling. Either that, or you cheated. I’m not judging.

3 – 5 YES answers:
You have good instincts, but there are probably places in your sales conversations where a little uncertainty is costing you opportunities.

6 – 8 YES answers:
Welcome to the club.

You are officially an Accidental Salesperson.

And here’s the good news:

You don’t need to become a “salesperson” to get better at selling.

You don’t need clever closing techniques.

You don’t need to become more aggressive.

And you definitely don’t need to learn how to pressure people into saying YES.

What you need is to become more confident at having the conversations that lead people to make good buying decisions.

That means learning how to:

  • Establish trust quickly.
  • Ask better and deeper questions.
  • Stop pitching and start discovering.
  • Talk comfortably about money.
  • Follow up without feeling like a pest.
  • Handle objections without getting defensive.
  • And confidently ask someone to work with you.

That’s exactly why I created the Sales Confidence Lab.

What Is the Sales Confidence Lab?

The Sales Confidence Lab is a 12-week live, interactive program designed especially for coaches, consultants, solopreneurs, and other Accidental Salespeople who need to bring in business but don’t want to feel “salesy” doing it.

This isn’t a course where you watch 47 videos and then forget your password. It’s LIVE with me.

We actually practice.

We train. We coach. We role-play. We work through real sales situations. We talk about the conversations you’re having – or avoiding – with actual prospects.

And most importantly, you’ll learn a conversational approach to selling that feels natural, ethical, and like you.

Because my goal isn’t to turn you into a salesperson.

It’s to help you become more confident at helping the right people choose to work with you.

So Here’s My Question…

Go back and look at your quiz score.

If you answered YES to three or more questions, ask yourself:

How much business might I be losing because I’m uncomfortable with the selling part of my business?

One client?

Three clients?

Ten?

And what would happen if you could have those conversations with more confidence?

If you’re thinking, “Yep. This is me,” then the Sales Confidence Lab was built for you.

Learn more about the Sales Confidence Lab and join the next cohort.

Come learn how to sell without becoming the kind of salesperson you never wanted to be.

Because you don’t need to be pushy to be successful at sales.

You just need to get really good at having better conversations.
